Energy Group

Our aim is to develop and implement an Energy Descent Plan for Bath to respond to the twin threats of Peak Oil and Climate Change. To do this we need to identify and encourage positive changes within Bath. An essential part of this initiative will be working with policy makers, communities and interest groups, focusing on educating and enabling people (including us) to take action.

Our projects:
Meter Project: helps individual households to reduce their electricity consumption by monitoring their electricity use.
Hydro Project: showcases local alternative energy and makes a modest contribution to self-sufficiency

We have also produced a simple-to-follow set of ideas which anyone can use to help meet our aims. Click here to download our make a difference guide

We have already (May 2010) set up a 'not for profit' company called Bath Community Energy (BCE) Ltd. This is initially to pursue the Hydro scheme at Bathampton, and its aim is to offer some return on investment as cash flow permits but to also to reserve a proportion of income to finance other projects and support other Transition activities. It is hoped to be able to issue a prospectus around the end of 2010.

We meet monthly (currently at the Bell in Walcot St) to review our progress and we are always looking for new initiatives.  The next meeting is on Monday June 14 at 8pm.

If you would like to get involved, contact Andrew Wyon (andrew@wyon.net or 01225 317945).
