Results of B&NES Schools Energy Competition: a 20% average reduction in electricity consumption at 13 schools

Home News & Events Latest News Results of B&NES Schools Energy Competition: a 20% average reduction in electricity consumption at 13 schools

Bath and North East Somerset Council in conjunction with Resource Futures have been working with 13 schools in the last year to encourage and support schools to run a behavioural change campaign to reduce energy usage.

The culmination of this program was an energy saving competition between the schools. The competition ran over a 2 week period and led to a combined average 20% reduction in electricity consumption.

St Julian’s Primary had the largest reduction of over 30% in total consumption. On a per pupil basis Paulton Juniors has the lowest weekly consumption of 2.5 kWh per pupil per week (about 30p). Midsomer Norton Primary was the winner for the best campaign.

It seems to Transition Bath that intra-school competitions are a good way of motivating schools to reduce their energy consumption. Hopefully the lessons learnt from this programme will teach pupils excellent future life skills?
