SUMMARY:Growing our Local Food System: A Community Convention
DESCRIPTION:Organised by Bath Area Growers\, this gathering welcomes all who want to participate in transforming how we grow\, distribute\, cook and share food. As the interconnected crises of climate\, ecology\, inequality\, community division and global instability unfurl\, we recognise that changing at a local level how we relate to food\, the land\, other species and eachother is core to healing these harms\, preparing for future shocks\, and creating a more beautiful world. \nBy coming together we can share our visions\, challenges\, ideas\, skills and encouragement. As a supportive interconnected network\, many more things become possible\, things we may not yet have dreamed of. Come and get involved! \nIf not you\, who? If not now\, when? \nThe event will be a facilitated to including connection and reflection\, sharing experiences\, creativity\, workshops and emergent sessions. DESCRIPTION:We will be holding our fifth edition of the Sustainability Shorts lecture series in the centre of Bath at the Salvation Army Citadel on Green Park Road. \nThe evening is designed to be engaging\, snappy and entertaining\, with six speakers talking for ten minutes each on their chosen sustainability subject. There will be five minutes for Q&A after each speaker\, then it’s on to the next! You are guaranteed to hear something new and something you can work with from our varied speakers. \nOur Speakers this time are: \n\nJulia Galbenu\, outdoor adventurer\, and nature wellbeing facilitator and Community Engagement Manager from Heal Rewilding\, whose objective is to rewild land in England to heal nature and act on climate change. How can we improve access to nature and ensure more people in England experience the wellbeing benefits of getting outdoors? Julia will explore this in her talk\, ‘Nature Access: Rewilding is a Gamechanger.’ The session will address the visible and invisible barriers to outdoor access and how rewilding is creating new opportunities for connecting with nature.\nAnthony Simpson\, National Energy System operator talks on the subject of Climate for electric cars? Looking at the opportunities and risks posed by growing volumes of storage and electric vehicles to grid stability.\nLaila Petrie\, founder and CEO of 2050 and Director General of Future Earth Lab\, talking about Sustainable Fashion.\nRachel Hopkins from Avon Wildlife Trust\, speaking about the Team Wilder project – a network of people\, organisations and groups\, taking action for nature by creating space for nature in the community – and wildlife friendly gardening.\,\nTania Orgill\, Forest Bathing Guide & Forest School Leader\, owner of PlayWood Forest School & Outdoor Learning will talk about her love of nature and how it drew her to become part of the team at the local charity Wild About Bath\, which seeks to encourage people in the Bath area to appreciate nature.\n\n\nPhilip Sturgeon from Protect Earth will be talking about their latest project and crowdfunding to secure 70 acres of disused land between Claverton and Warleigh Wood on the River Avon\, and their ambitious plans to create and restore the land for a variety of habitats including woodland\, wetlands and calcareous grassland with improved public access.\n\nWe will be serving tea and coffee during the break (there may even be biscuits)\, so plenty of fuel will be on offer to help you to keep up with the pace! \nGet your tickets

SUMMARY:Hedge laying – your chance to learn a traditional skill
DESCRIPTION:The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) and Transition Bath have partnered to offer two days of learning and hands-on practice with CPRE’s skilled hedge-layer. \nHedge laying is a traditional country skill intended to create a strong\, dense living hedge. By laying a hedge you not only create a living fence\, you also help to encourage new growth\, making it an excellent way of regenerating an old\, overgrown hedge without replacing it. It’s a skill that is best learnt from a craftsperson\, and we offer that chance. You will be working in a group of volunteers led by CPRE’s hedge-layer\, gaining real work practice on one of the Nuttery’s overgrown hedges. \nSpaces are limited and must be attended if we are to maximise our time with our hedge expert so please be certain that you can make the appointment before booking. Please include a contact number so that we can keep you up-to-date on what is required for the day. \nWe will be outside for most of the day\, so please dress accordingly and bring a stout packed lunch and plenty of water. Sustaining cakes will be provided!
