Avon River Cleanup Report

Transition Bath teamed up with Darroch and his team from Bath Outdoors to undertake a litter cleanup on the River Avon. Starting from Batheaston, we split into two teams, one on the river on paddle boards and kayaks, the other combing the pathways besides the river.

After three hours, we had collected over 15 bags of rubbish in total and pulled a bike out of the muddy depths of the river, as well as soaking up the gorgeous sunshine and tranquil surrounds of Bathampton Meadows.

Here is a table of all our finds:

Type Count
Plastic (pieces over 5mm, not including plastic bottles)Approx 2080
Glass (not including bottles)10
Metal (not including bottles)23 (+1 corrugated iron roof)

Car parts (tyres, hub caps)5

The day was a huge success and we are keen to do more of these cleanups, tackling areas not normally accessible by foot. If you are interested in helping out, please email us for more information.
