The small community of Chelwood, 10 miles to the west of Bath is raising capital to pay for a large 5 MW solar farm enough to provide electricity for 1,200 homes. To date it has raised £2.1 million in share capital enough combined with a loan for the project to go ahead but it is looking to raise more share capital if possible, more information is available here and here, the deadline for investment is 11th September 2015.
After paying off the loan and providing shareholders with a return the project Chelwood Community Energy hopes to use income from the solar panels to invest about £1.2 million in local projects over the next 25 years.
