Professor Stefan Doerr will talk about the increase in wildfires and the recent media interactions regarding Donald Trump’s comments on the causes of wildfires in the USA.

As a world authority on wildfires, Professor Doerr regularly gives expert comments in the UK and international media on extreme wildfires, including the January 2025 fires in Los Angeles. He will talk about this work which has led to recently being awarded the prestigious Murchison award by the Royal Geographical Society for his global contributions to understanding wildfires.

Professor Stefan Doerr is based in the geography department at Swansea University. He is professor of wildland fire science, studying the effects of fire on landscape, soils and water, as well as global fire patterns and trends.  He is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Wildland Fire.
