August 21 @ 17:00 - 19:00
Join our Trustees Lyn and Alexander as we scour the Smallcombe Nuttery for nuts. By the calendar, the cobnuts and walnuts should be in season, as well as the glorious mulberries. Not nuts at all, but still important! Signing up is appreciated for our records, then turn up with fingers to pluck and eyes to search.
We’re on a mission to improve biodiversity at the Nuttery, so we’ll also be making our first ‘wildflower scrapes’. Lend a hand with that, and also spend a quiet 10 minutes monitoring a small patch of grass to see what you can spot, either buzzing over or scuttling on the ground. We’ll be guided by some excellent resources designed by Marian Hill (Buzz & Scuttle).
NOTE: as is the nature of nature, there may not be any harvestable nuts on the evening, though we have been checking and there were definitely plenty near harvest recently. If no nuts are available then this event serves as an object lesson in squirrels and humility.
