Garden Organic has an exciting update on the Pesticide Collaboration’s #GoPesticideFree campaign – and they need your help!
For the first time, legislation is being put forward to the UK parliament to phase out the use of pesticides in urban spaces. If passed, it would ban local councils in England from using pesticides in public spaces.
It’s crucial the Early Day Motion for the Bill, tabled by MP Siân Berry – and due for its second reading on 25 April – gets as much cross-party endorsement as possible.
We urge you to write to your local MP to express your support!
This is an important opportunity to help ban the use of toxic chemicals in publicly run areas of our villages, towns and cities – to stop harming wildlife, water courses and human health.
“Pesticides kill, it’s as simple as that, and they have no place as part of a healthy ecosystem whether that’s in a garden, park or street”, says Garden Organic’s CEO Fiona Taylor. “Councils are being allowed to spray toxic chemicals in areas where children and pets play, people enjoy sports, and birds, bees and butterflies feed and make habitats. This can’t be right. There are many examples in cities across Europe, where successful pesticide bans have already been implemented. Let’s make it happen here.”
