With Christmas trees on sale and Santa paying a visit, Riverside Youth and Community Centre was the perfect venue for Transition Baths festive food preservation workshop.
The afternoon started with a demonstration of preparing four recipes using different preserving methods: preserved lemons (salting), sauerkraut (fermentation), satsumas (bottling) and pears (pickling). The 22 attendees then spent the rest of the afternoon making two of these recipes themselves. They left with four recipe cards to practise preserving at home, two jars of preserved food – although sadly no partridge in a pear tree!
We will be running a further series of Food Preservation Workshops in the new year – more details to follow, watch this space.
