This project aims to analyse carbon emissions in Bath from a top down basis and identify low cost opportunities to maximise carbon emission reductions in the Bath area. The analysis aims to produce project ideas which volunteers can pursue.
It also aims to provide support to other Transition Bath projects analysing whether they are meeting their objectives including producing KPIs.
Project and analysis ideas include:
- Air transport emissions: 10% of frequent fliers account for 50% of airplane carbon emissions mostly in the richest 10% demographic prevalent in Bath. Would a Swedish style Flygskam movement work in Bath? Bath is a big tourist city, can we reduce inward tourist flights without impacting the city’s economy?
- Bulk purchase schemes for solar panels, air source heat pumps, underfloor insulation
- Personal carbon budgets and pledges: including analysing the best carbon calculators
- Community energy groups: there are a large number of small, often rural community groups around Bath independently trying to reduce carbon emissions. Can these be better coordinated to leverage best practice and local skillsets?
We will be looking to analyse and document these ideas, researching best practice from around the world. If you have any suggestions please email us carbonstrategy@transitionbath.org
