The government has recently announced an area 5 miles to the south east of Bath as being suitable for fracking or hydraulic fracturing. The area (see map above) starts near Winsley and Avoncliff and covers Trwobridge, Westbury and Warminster. The area is undergoing an assessment process prior to licenses being awarded. This is very much in line with the policy of the new government, promoting fracking which is unpopular with the public while withdrawing support for renewables which are popular.
To remind you, from Transition Bath’s Parliamentary Hustings in March 2015, Ben Howlett our new MP made the following statements/commitments:
1. Didn’t support fracking in Bath or Somerset, but potentially elsewhere in the UK
2. Would support an anti-fracking bill
