‘Food on Our Plates’ Walk

As part of the two-week Bathscape Walking Festival, Transition Bath led a group of 14 walkers from Newbridge Park and Ride, through Roots allotments along the river finishing at Bath Organic Group’s plot in Victoria Park.

The aim of the walk was to visit two contrasting ways of growing veggies to end up on your plate!

The first visit was to the new Roots allotment site at Newbridge, where individual plot holders grow for their own use. After an introduction to this organic, no-dig site from Ed, one of the founders, we joined the riverside path and headed back towards the city centre, with a brief summary of points of historical interest along the way.

The second visit was to the well-established community garden of Bath Organic Group at the Lower Common site. Here people grow and share crops, as well as creating surpluses for the monthly Farmers’ Market stall. We were made to feel very welcome and after a quick tour of the site we enjoyed some freshly pressed apple juice, tea and home-made cake.

The next walk led by Transition Bath for the Bathscape Walking Festival will be on Wednesday 20th September called ‘Community Green Fingers‘. Come and join us for a walk that explores community involvement in growing trees and crops.
